Training Tips
Everyone has their little batches of tips. Here's mine.
Have fun! Running shouldn't be a chore. If it does become one, you need to slow down and find a pace you can enjoy. When running becomes a 'job' you lose that joy and get burned out from running. Don't push yourself to the point where you're rushing from one race to another and constantly pushing yourself.
Run in the morning, it spikes up your metabolism, which stays higher throughout the day on average, while if you had run at night, it'll drop down quickly as soon as you settle in to sleep. Running in the morning gives you an overall better workout.
Run twice a day instead of doing one long run. It actually allows you to have a higher mileage for the day because you give yourself that break. It also insures that you won't injure yourself by running too long and too hard.
Before each run, stop and look at yourself, listen to your body and know how it feels and know at what pace should you go so that you won't ignore it and hurt yourself.
Keep a journal, tell someone about what you're doing when you're training for a race. It helps you keep yourself accountable, as well as becoming a person of their own word.
Don't stop, it takes a lot of time to build a habit and only a little to break it.
Think positive, think about what you can do, and what you will do. Just because you're not there now doesn't mean that you won't get there some day.
Prioritize, you only have one life, and you only end up doing the things you want to do. Make sure you keep your priorities straight so you do what you truly want and need to do. Look at the long run, not at the instant gratification.
